My purpose in life and in creating art is to awaken a spark of curiosity that uncovers understanding of the deeper messages of existence and assists the audience in achieving their highest potential in co-existence with all of life. My abstract landscape artwork offers the viewer the opportunity to deeply evaluate their internal mechanisms and discover how they relate to and affect the outer world. Through the process of producing this art, I accessed the multitude of layers in my thoughts, emotions, physical sensations, and spirit. By creating windows (literally) that make my inner process available to the viewer, I hope to inspire their personal growth and spiritual growth. Our inner journey can be difficult and elusive to understand and navigate at times. By creating art intuitively and spontaneously, I help the viewer enjoy the inner journey as a creative unfolding rather than an obligatory march toward a predictable destination. The goal is to bring illumination to the darkness, revealing insights and helping the viewer grasp new revelations about themselves and the world around them.
My contemporary mixed media abstract art is defined by a wide array of mediums, techniques, and layers. The unique use of texture gives it a three-dimensional effect, accentuating specific points of interest and meaning. Heavily textured sections in my art add depth, juxtaposed against open, transparent, and delicate areas, often placing heavy earthen and material components next to lighter, ethereal, and luminous regions. Natural and organic products that represent the earth and nature are contrasted by synthetic and man-made mediums that symbolize the artificial world. These contrasts illustrate the 3rd dimensional realities of life, where the natural world interfaces with artificial and synthetic elements. A spiritual breakthrough occurs with the introduction of windows and symbols representing the mystical and transcendental potential waiting to be released into kinetic energy. A prime example is the Philosopher’s Stone symbol, representing the metamorphosis of density into divine illumination.
Using larger wooden canvases, my audience is drawn into a sizable abstract landscape that compels them to linger in the intrigue of the present moment. This acts as a mirror, a reminder, and a call to attention, beckoning individuals to re-connect with mindfulness, their inner process, spirit, the natural world, and the interconnectedness of all life. Serving as a type of Rorschach ink blot, it presents the viewer with recognition of different perspectives within themselves and how those perspectives are projected onto the outer world. I aspire to help people work through their everyday reality to transcend into a spiritual and mystical comprehension of themselves. My artwork explores our human interdependence with nature and each other. I purposefully connect with nature daily in ways that powerfully remind me of my union with the earth. Plaster, representing timeless sediment and derived from nature, forms the foundation of each piece. Through spiritual psychological symbolism, I convey messages related to connectedness and wholeness, showing how bringing pieces together acknowledges the impact our thoughts and actions have on reality. By becoming conscious of this power, we can improve our conditions and interactions with all of life.
The enduring mark I want to leave on the world is the empowering nature of uniting fragments of consciousness and achieving balance. By providing healing properties and moving toward the realization of higher understanding and expression, this connects us with the entirety of our humanity, guiding us through daily challenges and reconciling inner conflicts. Comprehending the mystical and ethereal parts of ourselves leads us to wholeness and initiates the transcendental process of discovering our spiritual life, facilitating our higher evolution forward.
